St. Vincent's Medical Center
St. Vincent's Health System is a faith-based, not-for-profit health system that has been serving the people of Jacksonville and the surrounding communities for more than 87 years.
St. Vincent's is widely recognized for excellence in patient care. From delivering healthy, happy babies to helping elders through their final years with dignity, St. Vincent's offer a continuum of care that is unsurpassed in North Florida. St. Vincent's can do that because our physicians and staff are experts who take pride in living the mission of caring for the sick and poor.
St. Vincent's currently offers the area's top cardiology and oncology programs. In 2003, St. Vincent's was recognized as one of the top Heart programs in the U, and the highest ranking program in Florida by US News and World Report magazine. See more on this recognition here.
While dedicated to serving all, St. Vincent's places special emphasis on helping the poor and less fortunate. St. Vincent's award-winning outreach ministries go far beyond the medical center in caring for the community through programs such as the Mobile Health Outreach Ministry, Parish Nurse Ministry, School Nurse Program, Seton Center for Women and Infants and more.
St. Luke's Hospital
Last year St. Vincent's HealthCare purchased St. Luke's Hospital, one of the cornerstones in the Jacksonville healthcare community, in a move that will extend St. Vincent's historical mission of serving the sick and the poor to the Southside.
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, which operated at St. Luke's Hospital, moved its services to a new building located on its San Pablo campus in April 2008. St. Vincent's HealthCare will assume operations of St. Luke's Hospital as a brand, new healthcare provider for Jacksonville.
Old Becomes New
To longtime Jacksonville residents, there is nothing brand new about St. Luke's Hospital. It is the city's oldest hospital, with nearly 135 years of caring for the community. St. Vincent's Medical Center is the city's second oldest existing healthcare provider.
What will be new are the additional resources available for the region and the opportunity for residents on Jacksonville's Southside to experience the same quality healthcare offered by the Daughters of Charity at St. Vincent's Medical Center — without having to cross the St. Johns River.
Michael Holmes, who joined St. Vincent's HealthCare in January 2007 as the future Chief Operating Officer of St. Luke's Hospital, sees the future of St. Luke's Hospital and he says it's looking brighter every day.
